OVERVIEW

The RS America was a special limited edition North American market car with only 701 examples being produced. While Europe received the Carrera RS along the same timeline, it was not a model that came to the United States due to federalization challenges. Through some lobbying from the Porsche Club of America, Porsche listened to the demands of the US market, and created a stripped down, lightened, and performance focused machine.

The RS America was based on the 964 C2 chassis, and then added M030 sport suspension (similar to C2 Turbo), 17” wheels, a fixed rear spoiler, RS light weight door panels, RS America badging and then deleted power steering, the rear seat, radio, and A/C system (although you could add some of that back in with the options). It was a performance oriented “RS” model, and came in at a low price $10K less than a fully equipped C2 of the same model year.

Three options are present on this Grand Prix White RS America (#416 of 701 produced) – Limited Slip Diff, Sunroof, and A/C. Originally a radio delete car, a correct Porsche CR-1 radio was added (all RS America cars were prepped for radio from the factory with door speakers, windshield antenna, and amplifier – all you needed to do was add the deck), and is easy to remove as desired.

Assembled in November 1992 for the 1993 model year, our car here has had four owners from new. The original owner purchased the car in 1993 and held onto the car until 2000, where the 2nd owner went on for another 9 years of enjoyable use showing 57K miles in 2009 per the documentation. The third owner acquired the car from the 2nd owner via PCA membership and knowing each other at PCA driving events. The most recent owner acquired the car in January 2017 and has continued the service and record keeping duties going for the car while exercising it regularly.

The paint is original on all surfaces other than the front bumper cover that was recently resprayed to address rock chips. There is a minor scuffing on the lower black front spoiler from the occasional driveway. Glass is all original, other than the windshield. The engine bay is quite tidy, as is the front trunk area when you remove the carpet – it looks factory fresh.

With 78K miles showing on the clock, this RS America has no current mechanical needs and drives wonderfully. There are two great modifications from stock that help in this area as well – Bilstein PSS10 coilovers, and Turbo brakes. It takes an already focused machine and puts the exclamation point at the end of that sentence.

Michelin Pilot Sport tires are in excellent condition all around and fitted in 2017 along with an alignment. A compression check was completed in May 2017 at 66k miles and shows consistently at 4-5% across all 6 cylinders. Recent oil change and valve adjustment service completed at 78,600 miles, along with a fuel filter and brake/clutch fluid exchange in mid-2017.

This RS America is offered for sale with original books, window sticker, spare tire, tools, and a large folder of receipts.
