OVERVIEW

The “Gelandewagen” is a body on frame truck that was originally developed for the military in the 1970s at the suggestion of the Shah of Iran (a noted car collector, and large M-B shareholder). The truck was developed throughout the 1970s and ultimately manufactured in partnership with Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Austria. The civilian version of the truck launched in 1979 as the W460 chassis, available in both 2450mm and 2800mm versions.

The Gelendewagen, which is German for “Cross Country Vehicle” is one of the longest running Mercedes-Benz designs, with the truck still in production today at the factory in Austria. While there have been updates, the basic recipe has remained the same and as such the truck has been used by more than 50 military organizations around the globe during the last 35 years. This truck is the epitome of being both tough and reliable!

This is a low mileage early example of the venerable W460 chassis. Offered with the most powerful factory diesel engine option and a 5 speed manual transmission, this largely original truck will always be desired. The OM617 diesel motor is an icon of Mercedes-Benz engineering, and appeared in many of their offerings over the years.

This truck sports original glass, interior, and 90% original paint. It is a classic that turns heads in town, and provides simple, reliable, and fun transportation. Recently, a new battery, and four brand new tires have been installed along with new motor and transmission mounts, new front brakes and brake fluid flush, new center tie rod, new front shocks, coolant flush, and recent radiator and hoses.

Providing tremendous value, these currently under appreciated classic trucks provide superior engineering and comfort over trucks from the market touted Land Rover and Toyota offerings. Offered with factory manuals and tool kit.

I’d like to load up in that truck and overland to Patagonia.
