OVERVIEW

Introduced in 1999, the Ferrari 360 Modena arrived at a critical time for Ferrari. Entering the 21st century, Ferrari needed a technically sophisticated offering to serve their growing audience and prove they could still build the world’s finest performance cars. The original design was truly remarkable as it offered one of the most advanced construction methods combined with a newly derived V8 engine, featuring a 28% lighter and 40% stiffer aluminum space frame chassis, when compared to the F355. The new V8 engine developed just under 400hp, while the Pininfarina bodywork leveraged the latest F1 developments in advanced aerodynamics. And, of key importance to owners, the new engine layout offered easier timing belt access, no longer necessitating costly “engine out” timing belt services.

The new Pininfarina design was aggressive, advanced, yet elegant, and featured the now iconic clear mid-engine cover. The 360 remained in production until 2004, the last year for the 360 series. Although Ferrari built a total of 4,199 US market Modenas, less than half of total production, 1,810, were coupes, 1,341 of which were outfitted with the F1 Automated Manual gearbox.

This Ferrari Modena was built in July 2000 and sold new by Ferrari of Beverly Hills in October 2000 to its first owner in Southern California. After spending a few years in Arizona, the car returned to California, eventually finding its way to Washington State in 2016. According to the clean Carfax Vehicle History report, consecutively accumulated miles have accrued, with just under 14,000 original miles indicated today.

Service records date back to 2006 and document fluid changes, timing belt inspections, coolant and brake fluid flushes, and emissions testing consistent with state requirements. In 2013, with 10,600 miles, a major service was performed including a new timing belt, new tensioner bearing, pulley, new water pump, new belts, gaskets, and other items per Ferrari specifications for this major service. At this time, a rebuilt AC compressor was installed, transmission was serviced, and a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport tires were installed.

Presenting in excellent condition today, this Modena offers an ideal opportunity for the Ferrari enthusiast who enjoys performance driving. The exterior finish is glossy, smooth, and beautifully preserved. The rich black finish is very fitting for the mid-engine design blending smoothly with the glass, visually lowering the already dramatic profile. The sloping windshield, see-through engine cover, race inspired features, and stunning profile create a dramatic and memorable appearance to this beautiful Modena. The glass, lighting, and lenses are in excellent condition as are the emblems and Ferrari script. The body panels display excellent fit with tight closures to the doors and front/rear access panels. The silver finished wheels are in excellent condition, outfitted with brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires. Red brake calipers are cover the large, drilled and ventilated disc brakes, visible through the open spoke wheels.

The interior of the car is especially nice. The black leather seats are supple and smooth with excellent surfacing and embossed Cavallino emblems on the headrests. The dashboard, instruments, and switches are all in excellent condition, having benefited from professional refinishing and detailing. Ferraris of this era are known to have buttons and switches which develop chemical stickiness due to a manufacturing flaw. The switches on this car have been professionally restored with correct materials and finishes. The steering wheel, dash pad, and instrument cluster are free of notable wear and remain in excellent condition as well. The front storage area maintains factory correct finishes and features consistent with the exterior visual presentation.

Under the engine lid, the powerful mid-engine V8 retains excellent factory castings, correct air intake boxes, and original accessory equipment as delivered. Ferrari number plates, factory installation stickers, factory black paint color code, and verification markings are in place and in excellent condition. The underside of the car shows only minimal signs of use with just a few minor scuff marks typically found on the aerodynamic panels that divert airflow to various areas of the car. There is no evidence of structural compromise to the chassis or any of the suspension components, consistent with the clean and recently processed Carfax report.

The car starts, drives, and shifts smoothly in all gears, with its desirable Tubi stainless steel muffler adding a sonorous touch to the experience. Power delivery is progressive and yet very manageable with nearly 400 hp on tap. Though newer cars boast higher horsepower ratings, the 360 delivers an ideal blend of spirited engagement and comfortable touring. Road manners are comfortable under general conditions delivering impressice launches up to highway speeds, superb braking, and legendary handling honed to perfection by industry leaders in Formula 1 technology.

This Ferrari is accompanied by a set of owner’s manuals and leather case, a factory battery charger and case, tools in their case, jack, and selected copies of service invoices dating back to 2006.
