OVERVIEW
With more than a century building some of the most impressive racing and touring automobiles, Alfa Romeo continues to expand their legacy with a wide range of premium performance cars. Having returned to the North American market, in 2011 Alfa Romeo premiered the 4C concept car, followed by the Geneva Motor Show delivering the first look at the highly anticipated production offering in 2013. Built around a structural carbon fiber monocoque tub with aluminum front and rear subframes, the sheet molded composite body resulted in a lightweight but structurally robust sports car.
To power the new 4C, a turbocharged, 2-liter, four cylinder 237 hp engine was engineered to fit forward of the rear axle, resulting in ideal weight distribution. Four-wheel Brembo disc brakes, double wishbone suspension, and a dramatically low 16” measured center of gravity delivered jaw-dropping cornering and braking capabilities vastly ahead of exotic sports cars at a fraction of the price. All this performance culminated in 0-60 times of 4.2 seconds and a standing quarter mile of 12.9 seconds at 107 mph.
When production launched in 2015, sales were brisk as the automotive press encouraged every sports car enthusiast to consider the attractive value proposition driving an Italian sports car priced well below exotic cars with similar performance. As a result, first year cars were purchased and driven with a level of intensity resulting in just a handful of examples properly preserved and maintained with little more than break in miles. With a decade having now passed since launch, original low mile Alfa Romeo 4Cs have become sought after by collectors who recognize the growing legacy of these increasingly rare turbocharged, fuel-burning sports cars.
This beautiful one-owner example has been thoughtfully serviced and preserved by the original owner, a collector of premium sports cars including several Ferraris from a wide range of eras. Currently indicating just over 1,000 miles, in preparation for consignment the owner engaged specialists at Alfa Romeo Maserati Seattle to perform a multi-point inspection, as well as oil and brake fluid services. Prior services performed by Ferrari Maserati of Seatle included replacement of the body control module in 2020 with 774 miles and a third-year service (fluids, spark plugs, inside air filter etc.) performed in 2018 with 676 miles. At this time, a full chassis retorque per Alfa Romeo “tightening” requirements with specific structural bolts tightened to exact toque specifications was completed.
Today this Alfa 4C presents essentially as new. The original factory white paint is in excellent condition with consistent smooth paint over the original composite body panels. There are no marks or chips on the front bumper, hood, or side view mirrors as often seen on higher mile examples. The exterior of the car is remarkably fine including the unique alloy wheels with red calipers over cross drilled ventilated disc brakes, glossy carbon fiber side view mirrors, crystal clear headlight covers, and original factory tinted glass including the expansive windshield. As absolute originality has been retained, the original Pirelli PZero tires are still mounted.
The interior is beautifully trimmed with vivid red leather seats and matching red stitching over the black door panels and dash. Thoughtfully exposed sections of structural carbon fiber form the monocoque tub as the basis for the race inspired cockpit but also reveal handsome touches to the cockpit. The interior condition is essentially new throughout including the contoured dashboard, headliner, sun visors, and gauges.
Under the rear engine lid, the engine compartment and original engine remain as new with no modifications from the factory specifications. Services have been regular including the recent belt service in preparation for consignment.
Over the past decade, as the 4C has evolved, automotive journalists continue to laud the qualities of these cars beginning with the original, particularly for the unique feel and positive road manners specifically engineered for drivers who seek more engagement, dynamic handling, and analog road feel. The Dynamic shifting mode allows more manual control while the Natural mode delivers more relaxed cruising and leisurely highway driving. The seats are comfortable even for occupants of larger proportions while headroom and legroom remain ample for taller frames.
