Why Wait for a Porsche 911 Dakar?

1985 Porsche 911 Safari

In 1984, after several off-road rally victories going back to the 1970s, Porsche set their sights on the Paris-Dakar Rally. To win the race in a sports car was unfathomable at the time, but against all odds, Porsche managed it, with the help of a specially modified 911. Now, even forty years later, the legacy lives on, with Porsche themsleves releasing a 2023 Dakar version of the venerable 911.

This 1985 Porsche 911 Safari, in a wonderful Bastos tribute livery harkens back to that original idea - a sports car for off road travel at high rates of speed. I'll admit these Safari cars have become hot (trendy?) over the last few years, but if you have not driven one yet, you really should. When they are done right, they are fun and will make you smile like a kid again - and isn't that really the point of all of this sometimes?

Keeping this example aligned with the rally theme, it's been outfitted with the full Elephant Racing Safari suspension set-up. Driving this car flat out, you can see why the Elephant Racing parts cost what they do, it is unreal. The interior has been updated with some wonderful Recaro seats with custom fabric inserts, and an electric Classic Retrofit AC system is ready to be finalized and cool you off on your desert runs.

Well-maintained, all the right upgrades, and fresh off a service, this Safari is a conversation starter, and a phenomenal addition to any enthusiast's garage. Why wait for your 2023 Dakar to deliver and pay some huge ADM, when you can have this today!
