Follow the Recipe - 1974 Porsche Carrera Targa 2.8 Twin Plug

Painfully Good Cookie - 1974 Porsche Carrera Targa 2.8 Twin Plug

I've had the pleasure of personally owning, driving, and consigning a number of early Porsche 911 hot rods. This car has to be a personal top 3 example - the color, attention to detail, and specification are all just home runs. There is a recipe to these early sports purpose "hot rod" builds, and when you get it right...so good!

This example holds several unique distinctions that make it one of the best combinations of the 911 Carrera series cars. Built to extraordinary specifications, the pedigree of this original car is exemplary. One of the earliest series built in 1974, it is #103 of the first 200 constructed. These early cars are not merely rare, the chassis is fortified with transmission and body reinforcements consistent with early RS bodies. This rarity is further enhanced by the factory color Gulf Blue, making it one of just six 1974 Carrera Targas ordered in this color when delivered new.

Add some ingredients to that ultimate chocolate chip cookie recipe:

  • 2.8 RSR Spec Twin Plug Engine

  • Ohlins Suspension

  • Two sets of RSR Fuchs (16" and 15")

  • Factory Sport Seats

  • 930 Brakes

  • Elephant Racing catalog thrown at it

  • Bare metal rotisserie restoration, then covered in factory Gulf Blue

  • Every nut, bolt, fastener, wire, part - everything new, NOS, or refinished to as new...

And you have a home run cookie.

This car was built with a vision to be used and driven. Fully sorted, it has covered 5,000+ miles on two Targa California events, and numerous weekend road trips. The car excels when allowed to stretch its legs on big weekend miles. Get ready for summer driving season, top off, and rowing the gears into the sunset.
