1988.5 Lamborghini Countach LP5000 QV
We are delighted to present to you a sample of one of the recent off-market sales we have completed. This one came from a local owner that owned it for 25 years, and now is owned by a very enthusiastic collector that we think may be a caretaker for the next 25 years!
Introduced at the 1985 Geneva Motor Show, the Lamborghini Countach LP5000 Quattrovalvole represented the final and most developed evolution of the company’s landmark supercar. By the late 1980s, the Countach had become far more than an exotic automobile — it was a global automotive icon whose radical wedge-shaped styling, dramatic scissor doors, and ferocious V-12 performance defined the excess and ambition of the era. The Quattrovalvole, named for its four-valve-per-cylinder cylinder heads, featured Lamborghini’s legendary 5.2-liter V-12 engine mounted longitudinally behind the cockpit and paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Wider, lower, and more visually aggressive than earlier Countach variants, the LP5000 QV combined unmistakable styling theater with formidable performance, capable of speeds approaching 180 mph and establishing itself among the most coveted supercars of its generation.
The 1988.5 model year occupies a particularly important place in Countach history, representing one of the final iterations produced before the arrival of the Diablo. By this stage, Lamborghini had spent years refining the platform through incremental improvements in suspension, ergonomics, drivability, and reliability while carefully preserving the raw, analog character that made the Countach legendary. U.S. market examples benefited from Bosch fuel injection, offering improved usability and drivability while maintaining the intoxicating character of the V-12 powerplant. Equipped with signature boxed wheel arches, massive rear tires, deep front spoiler, and distinctive OZ split-rim wheels, the late-production Quattrovalvole models are widely regarded among enthusiasts as some of the most usable and desirable Countachs ever built. Today, these final-series QVs remain among the defining automotive icons of the 1980s and continue to enjoy tremendous demand among collectors worldwide.
Finished in striking Rosso over Bianco leather, this exceptional 1988.5 Lamborghini Countach LP5000 Quattrovalvole has been preserved with remarkable originality throughout its life. Showing 23,000 kilometers from new, the car retains its original paint and original interior — attributes increasingly difficult to find among surviving Countach examples. Just two owners have cared for the car since new, with the most recent owner having acquired it 25 years ago from its original owner.
