OVERVIEW
Throughout their impressive history, Ferrari has crafted some of the most memorable two-seat sports cars. Those equipped with V12 front engine and manual transmissions set the standard for premium road car driving experiences. But a big part of their premium brand position was due to Ferrari developing 2+2 designs. Such is the case with the last decade of the 20th century as Ferrari began integrating complex engineering systems, CAD based designs, and F1 derived technology. To meet these challenging advances, Pininfarina utilized these emergent technologies with the debut of the 456 at the 1992 Paris Auto Show. Determined to establish the 456 as a flagship offering, production models arrived in 1995 priced above both the 512TR and 550 Maranello. At an impressive $225k, the 456 was one of the most expensive premium luxury performance cars at that time.
Offered with a gated 6-speed manual transaxle or 4-speed automatic, the 6-speed variant achieved 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, with a 13.3 quarter mile. Top speed was equally impressive topping out at 192 mph, falling only second to the EU-market-only Porsche 959. The 456 featured lightweight alloy body panels, a composite hood, and a tubular steel space frame chassis designed with construction methods derived from Ferrari’s F1 development program. Although initial production was managed by Pininfarina, in 1996 Ferrari transferred manufacturing to their in house team. By 1998 the M (Modificata) was released which included improved seats, a new Becker stereo system, minor exterior improvements, suspension enhancements, and underbody air management enhancements that resulted in improved high speed stability.
Although Ferrari built a total of 3,289 456s from 1995-2003, just 688 456M examples were configured from the factory with the desirable 6-speed manual transmission. This Ferrari 456M GT was delivered new to the first owner through Miller Motorcars, Greenwich, CT. Invoiced July 2001, the total price with options was just over $250k. Services recorded in the warranty booklet include a 5k service with new cam belts performed at Miller Motorcars in Feb 2005 with 7,076 miles, emissions tests for registration, and ongoing services.
In January 2025, the current owner purchased this Ferrari. Services performed as a part of acquisition at that time include timing belts, water pump, thermostat, roller bearings, seals, accessory belts, spark plugs, fluid service (including brakes, transmission, and differential), new rear suspension spheres, and new PPF installed on the front bumper. In June 2025, an air conditioning service and freon charge was performed, ride height adjustment made using internal load leveling system, power seat adjustments to both seats, a new Ferrari alarm siren and backup battery, upgraded cooling fan relay and cooling harness, headlight motor service, remove steering wheel and install new spiral air bag contact, and new engine and gearbox mounts were installed (invoice totaling $14,751.00). In July 2025 new radiator and cooling ducts were installed. In September 2025 a new hood release cable and hood spring were installed.
Believed the sole example finished in beautiful Blu Pozzi, this 456M GT presents in excellent condition throughout with a rich, deep gloss and smooth surfacing on all exterior body panels. The doors, hood, and trunk open and shut properly with excellent panel fit consistent with factory production. The sloping windshield, side glass, and rear glass display factory brand etchings consistent with original glass. The lighting, lenses, emblems, and Ferrari script are in excellent condition, including chrome Cavallino emblems on the front grille and rear decklid. Dramatic from every view, the rich color unifies the glass upper, giving a more dynamic profile to the low roofline. A set of Goodyear Eagle F1 tires are mounted on factory 17” silver alloy wheels, all four of which are in excellent condition.
Inside the car, the beautifully contrasting natural leather interior features supple and smooth leather seating and matching natural material accents with contrasting blue throughout the cabin, including the rich wool carpets. Ordered new with optional colored upper dashboard, piping in color upon request, and colored steering wheel, these added features create a distinct presence to the overall interior. The dashboard, instruments, and switches are in excellent condition and function properly. There is no stickiness on the window or dash switches, as is often found on Ferraris of this era. The center console features the desirable gated 6-speed shifter, which is both a rare and highly desirable feature of any V12 Ferrari.
Under the hood, the powerful and legendary Ferrari V12 engine has been properly maintained, displaying correctly finished intake castings, air intake housings, and original components as delivered. Ferrari number plates, factory installation stickers, paint indication sticker, and verification markings. The engine and engine compartment condition are supportive of the low miles and excellent care the two owners have afforded on this rare example. The underside of the car shows original clean components, suspension, brakes, and correct factory exhaust.
The car starts, drives, and shifts smoothly in all six gears. The gated manual transmission is easily engaged even when the driver’s seat is adjusted to the full back position to accommodate longer legged drivers who will enjoy the ample legroom offered in this model. The rear seats are surprisingly roomy and comfortable though best suited for more agile occupants. Power is fantastic from the V12 engine which confidently launches to highway speeds and exhibits superb road manners well beyond what most Grand Touring cars offered during this era. Often overlooked due to the 2+2 configuration, astute collectors are now welcoming the 456M GT as a desirable touring car, particularly seeking low mile 6-speed manual transmission M-series examples.
This 456M GT is accompanied by the original window sticker, a set of owner’s manuals and leather case, sales brochures, a factory tire inflator case, a car cover, a set of tools and accessories housed in a factory leather covered toolbox, and two keys.
