OVERVIEW

The iconic 911 Porsche is, quite simply, one of the most important fixtures of sports car history. And while all good things must come to an end, it follows that the 993, the last of the air-cooled Porsches, represents the most refined of these truly great sports cars, ending a remarkable run of world class engineering and superlative design. Embodying the very best traits of the original Porsche 911 with the benefits of modern technology, the 1996 Carrera 4S delivers on all counts. The Carrera 4S combined the clean 911 profile, naturally aspirated 3.6-liter twin plug flat six, manual transmission, and dramatic wide rear fender profile from the 993 Turbo.

Modern even by today’s standards, the twin plug 3.6 liter flat-6 brings power to a surprisingly drivable car without compromise. Outfitted with the highly desirable 6-speed G50 Porsche gearbox, the S versions of the 993 are today considered a rare and highly desirable Porsche.

According to this car’s extensive and comprehensive service history, this C4S has had just two owners since new, with the first keeping it a remarkable 26 years. All records are present, including the original sales invoice from Stave Taub Porsche in Santa Monica, CA.

Visual inspection and paint metering indicate that the front and rear bumper caps have been repainted, as has the hood, but the underside of the hood and other paint areas appear to remain original. The roughly 116,700 miles currently displayed on the odometer are believed to be original and consistent with the service records accompanying the car.

The following factory options are featured on this very well-equipped Carrera 4S Coupe:

Currently on display in our showroom, this Porsche Carrera 4S presents in excellent cosmetic condition with largely original factory Polar Silver paint. The unique wide body is in beautiful condition with excellent factory door, trunk, and hood closure, and smooth fit at the front and rear bumpers. The clean exterior trim, smooth and glossy lenses, and clear glass are remarkable for a car of this age. The 18” wheels are in perfect condition, having been refinished in preparation for sale and fitted with new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, along with rebuilding the four brake calipers.

The original interior shows beautifully, beguiling the mileage while boasting of previously careful ownership. The black leather hard-back sport seats still retain a supple feel, while showing some wear expected with this mileage. The excellent leather finishes and miscellaneous refined material condition continues throughout the interior. The overall fit and finish of the interior is fresh, comfortable, and exhibits all the traits of a properly sorted and original car, complimenting the exterior.

Under the hood, the last of the air-cooled 911 engines, the 285 hp 3.6L M64, is favorably equipped with Varioram induction. The engine compartment and trunk are cleaned and properly detailed displaying original factory features including the correct engine emission stickers, lines, and hardware. The trunk area appears to retain original materials and factory finishes including the collapsible spare tire, proper black molded components, factory treated metal parts, and correct hardware.

Driving this Carrera 4S is very rewarding and offers great road feedback and dynamic cornering response even under modest driving. The chassis is composed, tight, and authentic, showing no visual evidence of structural compromise to the underside of the car.

The unmistakably desirable last series Porsche 911 marked the final iteration of greatness on this historic Porsche with the 993. Finished in desirable Polar Silver with a sunroof, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-maintained and handsomely optioned Porsche Carrera 4S which is poised for ongoing desirability and increased demand as a premium example of the last of the great air-cooled rear engine Porsches of the 20th century.
