OVERVIEW

Introduced as the flagship of the Ferrari line in 1996, the 550 Maranello replaced a long line of mid-engine cars beginning with the Berlinetta Boxer advancing to the Testarossa. Designed to capture the glory days of Ferrari’s legendary 12- cylinder front-engine sports cars, the 550 celebrated the final statement of the front engine V12 to enthusiastic press and customers who welcomed the Maranello as Ferrari’s flagship offering. The Pininfarina styling evoked the elegance and muscularity of legendary Ferraris without succumbing to trendy retro-futurism. The clean and beautifully proportioned body was perfectly suited to the 485 hp V12 engine and 6-speed transaxle blending power and grace in a superlative grand touring car.

This low mile black on black 550 Maranello was first registered in Florida and sold to the second owner, a resident of California in 2000. The third and current owner purchased this car in 2024 where it has continued to enjoy ongoing services and care consistent with the former long-term owner. Under prior ownership, service records accompanying this Ferrari date back to 2000 outlining interval maintenance, new fluids and filters, hose replacements, intake gasket replacement, campaign recall wheel replacement, recall engine ECU replacement, and other recall campaign work. In 2014, with 9,600 miles a major service was performed with timing belt replacement, followed by a 2021 timing belt service at 12,400 miles. During this 2021 service, the water pump was replaced, a new engine mount installed, all fluids replaced, hood and boot struts replaced, new drive belts and tensioner bearing installed, and A-arm bushings installed, totaling over $15,000.00.

Additional recent services of note include a new battery in 2023, paint correction and full front Xpel clear film applied to all front surfaces and doors. In 2024 with 13,247 miles the car was purchased by the current owner and transported from California to Washington state where it was serviced including new door weatherstripping, a new ashtray, a new alarm siren, and a battery maintainer and new alternator were installed.

Today this 550 Maranello presents as an excellent example of one of the very best V12 6-speed grand touring Ferraris ever produced. Finished in dramatic black over black leather interior, this elegant color combination emphasizes the commanding width, muscular body lines, and powerful stance. The paint presents with excellent gloss throughout, consistent color, and deep luster which is particularly vivid in mirror finish black. The front and rear bumpers have excellent fit to the body and all opening features open and close properly. The front of the car has been treated with a professionally installed clear film that covers the hood, the front bumper, front fenders and doors. The 18”alloy wheels feature matching Ferrari yellow centers fronting black finished brake calipers in keeping with the black-on-black color theme. A set of Continental Sport Extreme Contact tires are installed and carry 2023 date codes.

The interior is in excellent condition overall finished in black leather, trimmed with alloy accents, gated 6-speed manual shifter, and embroidered red logo Ferrari floor mats. The leather seating surfaces are supple and smooth with excellent surfacing, firm bolster supports, and embossed prancing horses on the headrests. Interior touches include enameled crossed flags on the center console ashtray, traditional luggage straps over the rear parcel tray, and a leather wrapped steering wheel fronting a host of analog gauges. Switches and other typically sticky finishes have been remedied with excellent quality fit and finish. The radio head unit and door speakers have been upgraded, and the originals are inlcuded. The trunk area remains essentially stock with factory carpet and correct finishes consistent with the low miles and enthusiast care since delivered new.

Under the hood, the powerful Ferrari V12 engine has been properly serviced and detailed, featuring correct alloy engine and fuel injection castings in excellent condition. The factory housings and accessory equipment are authentic as are the factory emissions stickers, specification plates and the factory paint sticker. Theengine and engine compartment are clean and correct, reflective of the low miles this Ferrari has covered since delivered new. The underside of the car is correct, retains the aerodynamic chassis panels, a Tubi exhaust, and the factory 550 wishbone suspension.

Specifications, condition, and low miles are all desirable but capturing all that in a car you can enjoy driving is all the more delightful. In the case of this example, the overall driving experience is impressive, powerful, and captivating. The combined suspension and four-wheel disc brakes offer even modernly skilled drivers added confidence at both highway speeds or twisting country roads. Best of all, even with significant power on tap, the Maranello delivers a refined driving experience with cold AC, variable power steering, ample trunk space for weekend getaway luggage, and the added distinction of knowing you are driving the legendary namesake of the Italian town responsible for producing every Ferrari since inception.

This beautiful Ferrari 550 Maranello offers known history since new, desirable colors, and maintenance history including a major belt service performed 3,000 miles ago. Offering V12 power and 6-speed manual performance, this Ferrari delivers on all the promises of iconic V12 supremacy with the added excellence of one of the best grand touring designs produced in the 20th century.

This Ferrari is accompanied by copies of service invoices dating back to 2000, the original factory owner’s books and leather case, the original leather tool case and tools with spare bulbs, tire inflator and storage bag, air compressor and soft case, CTEK Battery Maintainer, a Ferrari car cover and matching embroidered bag, two Ferrari seat covers and a Ferrari steering wheel cover, along with the original factory Becker radio and door speakers.
