OVERVIEW

The RS America was a special limited edition North American market car with only 701 examples being produced. While Europe received the Carrera RS along the same timeline, it was not a model that came to the United States due to federalization challenges. Through some lobbying from the Porsche Club of America, Porsche listened to the demands of the US market, and created a stripped down, lightened, and performance focused machine.

The RS America was based on the 964 C2 chassis, and then added M030 sport suspension (similar to C2 Turbo), 17” wheels, a fixed rear spoiler, RS light weight door panels, RS America badging and then deleted power steering, the rear seat, radio, and A/C system (although you could add some of that back in with the options). It was a performance oriented “RS” model, and came in at a low price $10K less than a fully equipped C2 of the same model year.

Three factory options were ordered on this Midnight Blue Metallic RS America (#474 of 701 produced) - Sunroof, Radio and A/C. Originally a radio delivered car, it currently has a radio delete plate and the door panels were re-done with no speaker holes (all RS America cars were prepped for radio from the factory with door speakers, windshield antenna, and amplifier – all you needed to do was add the deck). To be 100% factory correct, a CR-1 radio would need to be fitted, and speakers cut back into the door cards.

Assembled in December 1992 for the 1993 model year, our car here has had just two owners from new. The original California owner purchased the car in 1993 and held onto the car until 1998, when the 2nd owner (Washington State) acquired and enjoyed it for another 20 years, until our acquisition in early 2019.

The paint is original on all surfaces other than the front left fender and door, with a broken door check repair completed. There is minor scuffing on the lower black front spoiler from the occasional driveway. Glass appears all original, including the Sigla windshield. The engine bay is quite tidy in terms of cosmetics, as is the front trunk area when you remove the carpet – it looks factory fresh.

With 62,100 miles showing on the clock, this RS America has no current mechanical needs and drives wonderfully. The engine was fully rebuilt in 2013 at 60K miles by a noted local marque specialist at a cost of $28K, including a new clutch. The engine today is as new – no leaks, no smoke, no issues. New Continental tires were fitted during recent servicing, along with new brake rotors and pads at all four corners. Recent oil change, belts, and full service have been completed Summer 2019.

This RS America is offered for sale with original books, spare tire, tools, clean Carfax report and a concise documentation folder.
