OVERVIEW

Launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1974, the Porsche 930 was primarily developed to homologate the 911 for motorsport. Released in 1975, and following on to the US model release for 1976, the turbocharged 911 made waves on the street and the track. Derivatives of the Porsche 930 platform went on to dominate international motorsports in the late 1970s and well into the 1980s.

While the first 3.0L Porsche 930s for the US market arrived in 1976, they later saw a displacement bump for the 1979 model year. All the right curves and the spoiler helped let everyone know this was indeed a special “Porsche 911.”

Built in March of 1983, this specific car was originally built and delivered in Germany. The first (and only) owner acquired the car new through his local Porsche dealership in New Jersey. He walked in a said, I have to have one, make it happen. The car was imported from Germany through Florida in 1983 for USA preparation (speedometer swap at 260km, ride height, etc.).  Per the conversation, and our observations, the car did not have emissions or engine modifications – it is true stock Euro market 930.

The original owner had extensive overseas business travel for many decades. He loved coming home for the Porsche and had some wonderful times with it over all the years. Per the documentation, the car acquired just over 8,000 miles by 1988, and then just over 10,000 by 1999. It regularly passed New Jersey emissions inspections, and had approximately $6,300 of mechanical and cosmetic service work in 2014 and 2015 to simply make the car unapologetic. The car remained in New Jersey with the original owner from 1983 until our acquisition in 2018. We followed up with a major service with full fluid flushes, new Michelin tires, A/C system work and charging with R12, and more chassis and paint detailing. Current mileage is at 12,990.

Spectacularly presented in black over black, this exceptional 1983 Porsche 930 is an original European market delivery car. As would be expected at 12,900 miles, the car maintains mainly original finishes – paint, interior, glass, and wheels. Both the engine and luggage compartment areas are remarkable in original presentation. The condition shows that car has been properly stored and maintained since day one.

Documentation includes a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (COA), as well as records from new. The original specification shows the following options, confirmed by the COA:

Equipment for Germany (original delivery market)

  • Black Roofliner

  • Convex External Mirror – Right

  • Air Conditioning

  • Electric Sliding Sunroof

  • Pirelli Tires
